William Matchett

William Matchett: Author. Practitioner. Specialist. Speaker. Teacher. Dr William Matchett was a member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (George Cross) and Police Service of Northern Ireland for 30 years.  Most of his career was in the intelligence department, anti-corruption and training.  In Iraq and Afghanistan, he was at the forefront of implementing successful police-building programmes rated by the US Armed Services Committee in 2010 as “immediately effective in disrupting terrorist network activities and saving lives.” He has worked with the Free Syrian Police, conducted strategic reviews of the police in places like Jordan and was a criminal justice expert on the EU police mission in Kabul.  In 2006 he briefed the Pentagon on the challenges of policing in a hostile environment and has lectured on this topic. He is currently a Senior Researcher at the Edward M Kennedy Institute for conflict prevention, Maynooth University, Ireland.
